Qodeup is a startup founded in 2019 with the goal of improving thecustomer experience at a restaurant and increasing restaurant owners' revenue through the conscious use of technology. It all starts with a simple QR Code, which when scanned allows customers to quickly pay their bill and tip waiters. Today, Qodeup's is the fastest digital payment method available to Italian restaurants; the company has earned the title of "the only digital menu approved by F.I.C. (Federazione Italiana Cuochi)," and in 2021 it has joined the acceleration program of B4i - Bocconi for Innovation.

The company
Subdued is an Italian brand active since the 1990s inspired by the Italian lifestyle that aims to bring an element of novelty and originality to the outfits of a female and young audience.

The company operates in both the Italian and European markets, thanks to a retail network consisting of more than 50 stores in Italy and several outlets abroad, including important flagship stores in cities such as Paris, London, Barcelona, Madrid and Amsterdam.

Operating in a dynamic context such as fashion retail, where turnover is quite high and a good percentage of candidates belong to Generation Z, identifying and hiring the right candidates from the very first steps of the sales process soon proved essential for the company's well-being.

"In Subdued we need to be particularly efficient in selecting profiles that are strategic for us, such as the Store Manager or Sales Assistant. There is very little time available, but at the same time it is crucial to understand right away which candidates have the right communication approach, the necessary sales skills and a good orientation to teamwork, without forgetting the aspect of motivation."

The company was in a situation common to many companies in the retail sector: the pace of selection was getting faster and faster, forcing the HR team to channel all its efforts and time toward managing the interviews needed to cover the monthly turnover and assessing skills that were difficult to extrapolate from simply reading a CV, especially in the case of junior candidates.

Skillvue's intervention

With the inclusion of Skillvue in Subdued's selection process, it has been possible to make the steps leading up to the first interview much quicker and at the same time comprehensive.

After an initial analysis by the HR team of the basic pre-requisites for the position, all candidates are in fact given the opportunity to demonstrate their communication, sales and teamworking skills as early as the pre-screening stage. This is made possible by theStructured Behavioral Interview conducted independently by Skillvue's technology.

Once all Skillvue's interviews have been processed, Subdued's HR team has clear and objective information about the candidates' skills and can then make more informed decisions about whom to bring to an initial interview.

A limited number of steps were simply added to Skillvue's pre-existing selection process:
Step 1
Valentina creates an assessment test within Skillvue by choosing the skills she wishes to test in candidates
Step 2
Candidates are invited to complete the evaluatione Skillvue within a predefined number of days, from the location and with the device of their choice
Step 3
Valentina and her team access the results processed by Skillvue and choose the shortlist of candidates to take to interview

Valentina and her team also had the opportunity to engage with the Skillvue team to determine which tests and questions were most effective for their needs from those provided within Skillvue's Test Library.
